Ridgecrest Roundtable

March 26, 2015

Meeting began with approval of agenda and minutes.  The introductions and comments from the members at the table and the audience followed. Sheep Springs is full after 4 years and Larry Boyer cautioned the public of the presence of the Mojave Reds. A Quail Forever banquet is to be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Kerr McGee and many interesting rehab birds will be present. Comments during introductions were very minimal to allow more time for focus topics.

BLM reports-DRECP is going to be progressingand the BLM Land Use Plan Amendment will be moving forward with a record of decision expected to be signed in December 2015. DAC (Desert Advisory Committee) field trip will be on April 10, 2015. At time of meeting, a DAC meeting was scheduled for April  11, 2015 however it has been rescheduled for May 9, 2015 and will be held in Riverside not Ridgecrest.

The WEMO presentation was a preview of what will be shown at the WEMO public meeting that will be held on Tuesday March 31, 2015 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Kerr McGee Center in Ridgecrest.  The draft came out on March 6, 2015 and comments will be due by June 4, 2015 at 4:30pm. A copy of plan was available on disc which was distributed to anyone who requested one at meeting. WEMO can also be viewed on website: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/west_mojave__wemo/wmDEIS.html

Craig Beck of the BLM was very helpful answering questions and offering instructions on how to navigate through the documents and maps.

The meeting continued with membership outreach. Over the course of several months this will be a work in progress. Randy asked the members to review a list of the categories and current members. For homework he requested members to think about any categories that should be omitted or possibly added.  If any category has no member, he would like you think about a person from the prospective membership column;  to becomea future memberto represent that category .

The bylaws were discussed. Current bylaws state that any proposed amendments to the bylaws must be submitted in writing and put on agenda before any changes can be discussed. An alternate solution could be an operating procedure rather than bylaw amendment.

Next meeting will be held Thursday April 23, 2015 at 6:30 pm at Ridgecrest BLM Field Office.
